INTRODUCING OUR SPOKESPUG,
wheelin' since 2012
The story of a sweet, determined little Pug who overcame his condition - against all odds. As told by his Mama, Linda.
Pahoehoe came to us when he was 10 weeks old. He was sassy, playful, always hungry and had a smile that could melt you heart. He was perfect.
One day, when he was 4 1/2 years old he started walking funny...he had full control of his front legs, but his back legs almost appeared like he was drunk. We got him in for X-rays the very next day only to discover he had been born with a defect in his spine.
He was deemed inoperable.
We tried physical therapy, laser therapy, massage treatments, everything we could think of, but it became clear pretty quickly that he was losing his mobility and there was nothing we could do to stop that digression. In just 4 short, tear filled, months he went from wobbling to stumbling to dragging his toes hard enough to cause bleeding.
He was trying so hard and, in his own way, showing us that he still wanted to be an active member of our family. Something had to be done.
We were not active on social media back then, nor did we have any friends who understood what we were going through, it was our vet who suggested we look into getting him wheels to help him get around. I did my research (YouTube videos) and saw several pets wheeling & loving life and it filled me with a new hope. If we had wheels for Pahoehoe he could be one of those happy pets!
I’m not going to lie, he hated them. It was a full 2 weeks before it “clicked” and he realized just how much more he could do and how much easier it was to get around, but once he caught on, he never looked back.
Whether he’s bumbling around the house or wheeling out on the open road, Pahoehoe teaches us every day that with a little extra love and patience, we can not only adapt, but we can have many more happy days together.
Today Pahoehoe is 12 years old. He is sassy, playful, always hungry and has a smile that could melt your heart. He is perfect.
